GALANGA ESSENCE
Petrus Boonekamp was a great Dutch liqueur maker who obtained this bitter, for the first time, in 1777, distilling rare vegetal substances from different continents and, from that moment, the fame of the bitter, which he had baptized with his name, spread quickly around the world. There are numerous herbs that enter the composition of Petrus and among all of them the herb plays a fundamental role galangal , a perennial herb native to India and China, widely used in pharmacies as eupeptic aromatic. On the label there is a warning that reads "those who don't serve it die", a memo aimed at bartenders all over the world! The ideal way to enjoy it is at room temperature and without ice, which would alter its color and flavor.
Intense and bright mahogany colour, it presents multiple herbaceous and floral aromas on the nose, with hints attributable to dried rose, cherry in alcohol and cocoa bean. The taste is decidedly bitter, balanced and soft, in a context of great structure and balance which makes it pleasantly persistent. It closes with bitter notes of gentian and rhubarb, with a light hint of ginger.
