Description
A POINT AND A HALF
On April 19, 1870 in the Carpano shop in Milan, a stock broker, caught up in a fervent discussion with other colleagues on the daily growth of some stocks, which had risen that very morning by one and a half points (punt and mes), ordered the usual Vermouth , but corrected with a half a dose of cinchona , using the dialect expression "punt e mes". It was just before lunch, and this episode gave rise to a new, complete and unique aperitif that everyone immediately liked. Following its invention, the gesture to order it was also born among regular customers, which consisted of raising the thumb in the air (one point) and then drawing a horizontal line in the air (and a half), which has become the distinctive sign of lovers of the genre. Excellent to drink straight, garnished with orange peel, it also lends itself very well as a base for some cocktails.
Orange-yellow in color with topaz nuances, it is characterized by aromas reminiscent of medicinal herbs, cinchona and cloves. The taste is initially sweet and sugary, characterized by a captivating hint of orange peel, and then its taste evolves into the bitter sensation of the cinchona that characterizes it, and then returns to sweetness, in a continuous dribble with the bitterness , on a long alternating ending in this infinite tug-of-war.
